SoCal Basketball runs a program in conjunction with the Calgary Minor Basketball Association (CMBA).
AGES:
The age listed is the age of the player as of Dec 31st of the registration year.
6 - 8 years old: register in U9 Tykes program (non-CMBA). Click here for more info.
9 and 10 years old: register in the U11 program
11 and 12 years old: register in the U13 program
13 and 14 years old: register in the U15 program
15 - 17 years old: register in the U18 program.
EXCEPTIONS
1) HIGH SCHOOL: Any player currently attending high school MUST register in the high school division regardless of age/birth year.
2) GRADE 9: Any player who is 15 and in grade 9 can register for either U15 or U18.
EVALUATIONS AND TEAM PLACEMENT:
All registrants are evaluated up to 3 times early September. ALL PLAYERS WILL BE PLACED ON A TEAM AND ALL PLAYERS ARE WELCOME TO REGISTER. Prior experience is not required. Evaluations ensure that players are placed on teams of equal skill level.
All SoCal teams at U11 & older are gender specific, comprise of 9 - 13 players, and are coached by volunteers (usually parents).
Once placed on a team, this is where the player remains for the season.
REFUNDS ARE NOT PROVIDED DUE TO TEAM PLACEMENT.
SEASON INFORMATION
For U11, U13, and U15, practices begin in mid-to-late September and games begin the weekend after Thanksgiving. There are no games/practices during school winter break times. The season ends at the end of February / early March. Teams that qualify will have an optional Provincial Tournament that occurs in the first half of March.
The U18 season starts in mid-September and ends in mid-November. There is a second U18 season that starts in early January and ends at the end of February. U18 PLAYERS WHO PLAY ON THEIR HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL TEAMS ARE INELIGIBLE TO PLAY IN THE SECOND CMBA SEASON (Jan - Mar). Registration for this second season takes place in December, after school High School Teams are formed.
